अध्याय ११: विश्वरूपदर्शनयोग

अर्जुनाने विनंती केली की, 'हे प्रभो, तुमचे जे ऐश्वर्यमय रूप तुम्ही वर्णन केले, ते मला प्रत्यक्ष पाहण्याची इच्छा आहे.' श्रीकृष्णाने त्याला ते रूप पाहण्यासाठी दिव्य दृष्टी दिली आणि आपले विराट, विश्वरूप प्रकट केले. त्या रूपात अनेक मुखे, अनेक डोळे, अनेक अद्भुत दृश्ये, अनेक दिव्य अलंकार आणि शस्त्रे होती. हजारो सूर्य एकत्र उगवल्यास जो प्रकाश होईल, तसा त्या रूपाचा प्रकाश होता. अर्जुनाने त्या एकाच रूपात संपूर्ण चराचर विश्व पाहिले.

Arjuna requested, 'O Lord, I wish to see your opulent form that you have described.' Shri Krishna granted him divine vision and revealed His universal, cosmic form (Vishvarupa). In that form were countless mouths, countless eyes, many wondrous sights, many divine ornaments, and weapons. If hundreds of thousands of suns were to rise at once into the sky, their brilliance might resemble the effulgence of that form. Arjuna saw the entire universe, with its many divisions, situated in that one form.

हे भयंकर रूप पाहून अर्जुन भयभीत आणि आश्चर्यचकित झाला. त्याने पाहिले की सर्व योद्धे त्या विराट रूपाच्या मुखात प्रवेश करत आहेत. त्याने हात जोडून भगवंताची स्तुती केली आणि विचारले, 'हे उग्र रूप धारण करणारे तुम्ही कोण आहात?' श्रीकृष्णाने उत्तर दिले, 'मी लोकांचा नाश करणारा 'काळ' आहे आणि या सर्व योद्ध्यांना मारण्यासाठी आलो आहे. तू केवळ निमित्तमात्र हो.' अर्जुनाने क्षमा मागितली आणि पुन्हा आपले सौम्य, चतुर्भुज रूप दाखवण्याची विनंती केली. श्रीकृष्णाने पुन्हा आपले मानवी रूप धारण केले आणि सांगितले की हे रूप केवळ अनन्य भक्तीनेच पाहता येते.

Seeing this terrifying form, Arjuna was filled with fear and wonder. He saw all the warriors entering the mouth of that universal form. With folded hands, he praised the Lord and asked, 'Who are you in this fierce form?' Shri Krishna replied, 'I am Time, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I have come here to destroy all these warriors. You are but an instrument.' Arjuna begged for forgiveness and requested Him to show His gentle, four-armed form again. Shri Krishna resumed His human form and explained that this cosmic form can only be seen through exclusive devotion.
